About Me

Hi! I'm Courtney. I had a couple of career "false starts" in law and advertising until I found my calling in film production. I became a big movie buff during the pandemic, and in the midst of raising kids I found some time to research what it means to be a film producer.

Spoiler alert: no one knows!

Just kidding. A producer is someone who facilitates the actual logistics of movie making. For small budget indie films, that means everything from greenlighting the project, casting, hiring crew, location scouting, handling wardrobe, production design, payroll, going on crafty runs (that's snack runs in film lingo), funding the project(!!), finding investors and promoting the film. I've done most of these things in the past few months, and I can't wait to do them again. I've also had training in acting, and have been cast in a couple of projects as well. Acting is something I enjoy, (in small roles), and will keep doing if the opportunity arises. My acting experience has given me a greater understanding of the needs of the actors, which I find to be vitally important to the success of the entire team.

I grew up in the restaurant business, where my father once told me that to be the boss, you have to learn and appreciate all of the roles involved. I've taken that mentality with me into film-making, although I leave all of the technical roles to the experts (director, cinematographer, gaffer, sound artists, etc.) I'm based in Boston but will travel throughout New England and to New York City for the next promising project.
